Moksha Yoga Student Profiles

My journey with yoga began about 10 years ago. After a year and a half of working out at a gym for the benefit of my mental health, I started yoga classes thinking it would keep me physically fit, as well as, help me retain my psychological and emotional well-being.  What I didn’t expect to get out of it was an entirely new worldview – a profound spiritual guiding force in my life and a rewiring of my brain. Hands down, yoga -- and the philosophy it has brought me -- is the most influential and valued element of my life.

Over the past 10 years I have tried Ashtanga, Anusara, Hatha, Moksha, Yin, Restorative, and other various vinyasa-based practices, including Powerflow.  They are all amazing forms of yoga and speak volumes to different people, for different reasons.

I find my relationship to yoga intangible and to some degree, private. While I am at peace with sense of “self” in this world, much of which I credit to yoga, I find my beliefs hard to explain. This is rare for a journalist by trade. I am not often at a loss for words. Yet I feel the structure of language is not adequate to express my profound connection this discipline.

I started attending classes at Moksha Yoga North York in February 2009, and I am eternally grateful for the grace the community has brought me. My spiritual journey would not have been complete without the voices of wisdom and snippets of elevated words that have become a daily fixture in my life. The instructors at MYNY are kick ass and will forever hold a deep place in my heart. Much love.

To our journeys,

Shereen
